Architecture

The 3X Backup system has three major components: the appliance, client, and locator service.

The Remote Backup Appliance (RBA). The 3X RBA is the cornerstone of the backup solution. This Linux-based system operates as the central store for backup data, runs the server side of our proprietary backup logic, and hosts the Remote Management Interface.

The Client. A client is installed on each system that needs backed up and includes three major components: the service (agent), tray icon, and a simplified client interface. The tray icon and client interface can be disabled for silent operation.

The Locator Service. Hosted by 3X Systems, the complementary Locator Service eliminates many client configuration issues. When an appliance is attached to the internet, it registers its digital location with the locator service. If a client cannot find the appliance at its last known location, it queries the locator service and obtains the correct IP address and port of the appliance, whether the endpoint is on the local network with the appliance or somewhere on the Internet.

Thanks to the locator service, the RBA can be moved to another physical location without reconfiguring endpoints or stored on a home broadband connect that does not have a fixed IP address.

3X Backup was designed from the ground up to operate over the internet, giving you the same benefits as an online vault provider in a box that's yours to buy and own.

Traveling Laptops. Laptops represent the most vulnerable data in today's companies. Not only are these computers at the highest risk of loss or theft, but they are often off-site during backup windows. With 3X Backup, laptops can be backed up across the internet, ensuring timely and thorough backup of critical business data.

Store the RBA in a Convenient Location. Thanks to the Locator Service and high efficiency data transmission, the RBA can be moved to any location with broadband, be it a remote office, the IT provider's office, or even the owner's home. Once the RBA is reconnected to the internet, clients will automatically resume backup services; no settings need changed.
